Please consider donating to West Hillandale Pool. West Hillandale Pool is a non-profit, volunteer, community organization. Our goal is to provide the community with a safe place for socializing, recreation, and fitness at the lowest price possible. Our current dues levels only cover our annual operating expenses. Maintenance of the pool, pool house and grounds is only possible through the hard work of our many volunteers and through the money we raise each year in donations.

As WHSC nears it's 50th Anniversary, there are several large infrastructure projects which need to be accomplished to ensure the pool will continue to be a part of our community for the next 50 years. These projects include resurfacing the pool, upgrading the electrical system, replacing the main circulating pump, and repairing the main pool drains. To accomplish these critical projects WHSC has established a 50th Anniversary Captial Campaign Fund with the goal of raising $50,000 by 2011.

History of the Pool

The West Hillandale Swim Club was formed in June of 1961 by residents of the Hillandale community. Each founding member contributed $5,000 to purchase the real estate and construct the pool and club house. In today’s dollars, the contributions were more than $32,000 per member. In that same year, the Pool purchased the 5 acres of land situated at 915 Schindler Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20903. In 1963, the Pool opened after construction of the swimming pool and club house was completed.

The Pool is a gathering place, where pool members and their guests enjoy good weather and the company of family, friends, and neighbors. It is a place where our children learn to swim and have fun, while they learn the value of good sportsmanship and friendly competition. The Pool’s Swim Team, the Dolphins, is a charter member of the Montgomery County Swim League, which celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2008.

The Pool is one of the nicest community pools in Montgomery County. It is quiet and lined with tall trees. There is no traffic noise. It is the only community pool in Montgomery County designed with a spacious shallow area which gradually changes from 2 foot to 3 1/2 feet deep. This feature makes it a favorite of families with young children. Over the years, the Pool has been a vibrant, welcoming community center. Throughout the summer the pool is host to many social events, birthday parties, and impromptu gatherings.

The members own a share of the Pool, including the underlying real estate. The pool is run, managed and maintained by volunteers. This makes WHSC a unique and valuable part of the Silver Spring community.
